Over five million passengers traverse the Port of Algeciras every year. It’s the main port for Southern Spain and the compulsory gate to traverse the Gibraltar Strait. The port is large and people frequently get lost trying to find the right car park, terminal, office or pier.

To give travellers a smoother journey, Autoridad Portuaria de la Bahía de Algeciras (ABPA), the public organisation which manages the Port of Algeciras and Tarifa, has developed a map with 3 word addresses of every key location, in English, Spanish and French. Travellers can enter any 3 word address from the map into the free what3words app to see exactly where they need to be.

This is helping travellers navigate quickly and safely to the right locations. It also makes it easier for ABPA to manage high volumes of passengers more safely. As the port is home to a great deal of heavy machinery and traffic, guiding people to ferries in the fastest way possible is a significant advantage.

You can find the map on the ABPA website (under ‘Routes and main locations’), along with clear instructions on how to navigate to a 3 word address.

The Port of Algeciras has also added 3 addresses to all its 300 business listings in its business directory . The 3 word address are all available in more than 25 languages, simply by selecting the language of the website. The listings include all the ship agents, fuel suppliers and morning services, among more than a dozen categories, allowing businesses and individuals to easily find the location of the service they require.
