what3words is built on the very latest tech platforms, which we’re always innovating and improving on – from a new website to apps, car and logistics software and hardware, voice technology, OCR and more.

We are proud of our tech stack. You’ll be exposed to technologies such as ReactJS, Docker, Redis, AWS Lambdas, Prometheus, Grafana, Python, Athena, BigQuery, Java, Scala, C++ and Swift.

Life on the what3words tech team is innovative, Agile and fast-paced. You’ll be joining a group of talented people from all over the world on an unprecedented journey.

Everyday brings new challenges, and we are continually learning.

We are a global company located in West London’s creative hub. Our headquarters are near Portobello Road and a short walk from Westbourne Park and Royal Oak tube stations.

Requirements

This is very much a front-end role, developing our map site, corporate site and our upcoming interactive developer site, including a developer playground. These are business-critical, highly visible projects where you will also work closely with our product and UX teams. We expect a critical eye (to question designs where appropriate) and a hunger to innovate - bringing fresh ideas, and new ways of thinking.

You will need a good eye for detail, sound engineering practices and enjoy a fast paced environment, learning constantly on the job. This is a high-profile role with significant freedom to set the technical direction and innovate, and you will report directly to the CTO.

You have expertise in building gorgeous user interfaces on top of RESTful web APIs, using React, JavaScript, CSS/SASS. You will have the ability to lead by motivating, guiding and inspiring others, and experience with the hiring process.

You have the ability to work independently, self-motivate, collaborate with others and work under pressure.

What we expect:

  • Deep expertise in ES6, modern JS libraries, React, CSS & pre-processors such as SASS.
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal & written English.
  • A passion for software engineering and continuous learning.
  • Strong track record of building responsive sites for desktop, tablet and mobile.
  • Experience of Agile working environments.
  • 2:1 or 1st class degree in Computer Science or a numerate subject.
  • Ideally: GIS systems, Wordpress, AWS, Kubernetes, Hubspot, Google Maps or Leaflet.

**Tier 2 sponsorship available for candidates requiring a UK work visa**
