Hitachi Solutions and what3words have partnered to offer precision location capabilities to thousands of organisations in Japan.

Hitachi Solutions, Ltd. and what3words have signed the first domestic sales agency agreement of its kind to bring what3words’ extremely accurate, yet simple location system to market.

what3words is an innovative location technology that has divided the world into a grid of 3 metre squares and given each square a unique combination of three words – a what3words address. For example, the front door to Hitachi Solutions’ office in Tokyo can be found at /// trailing.outdone.terminal

A what3words address provides a human-friendly way to communicate or input precise location information, and can be converted instantly to GPS coordinates for use in machines, apps and digital tools. It is particularly useful for locations such as construction site entrances, parking spots and physical assets, as well as unaddressed areas such as parks and mountainous regions.

Hitachi Solutions will offer what3words to thousands of its customers in Japan – particularly to those which leverage location information – combining its technological expertise with the ability to implement best-in-class digital solutions.

what3words addresses are available in over 45 languages, are easily entered by text and optimised for voice input. Hitachi Solutions’ customers will now be able to integrate what3words and build what3words voice search into their apps, tools and services with the what3words API.

what3words has been adopted by global automotive companies, including Mercedes-Benz, Tata Motors and Mitsubishi, logistics providers such as Hermes and Aramex, and many emergency services and mobility apps around the world.

Hitachi Solutions, Ltd. Executive Officer Kenichi Hirama said: “I am very pleased to announce the partnership between what3words and Hitachi Solutions. We believe that what3words has infinite possibilities as a means to promptly convey any exact location. I am convinced that communicating location by three simple words is useful and can make Japan a more livable and smarter society by combining what3words with our strengths, “cutting-edge technology and knowledge accumulated so far.” We look forward to embracing new innovation with what3words.”

Chris Sheldrick, CEO and co-founder of what3words says “We are delighted to be working with Hitachi Solutions in what is our first major partnership of its kind with a Japanese headquartered organisation. We are very excited to bring together Hitachi Solutions’ IT expertise and implementation excellence with our precise addressing technology – making it easy for thousands of Hitachi Solutions’ customers to utilise what3words in local markets across a broad spectrum of industries and use-cases.”
