what3words has announced a new collaboration with 42dot, Hyundai Motor Group’s (HMG) global software center, bringing the innovative location technology directly to HMG vehicles. The new what3words in-car app is now available to download via the Pleos Connect App Market in Hyundai Motor Group vehicles in Europe, the UK and South Korea – offering drivers a faster, more intuitive way to enter exact destinations using just three words.

Pleos Connect will power the next generation of infotainment systems in Hyundai Motor Group vehicles. Developed by 42dot and HMG, the platform includes the Pleos Connect App Market, giving drivers access to a growing ecosystem of in-car apps.

Around the world, street addressing often struggles to support modern mobility needs. Remote areas such as fields, industrial sites and roadside locations often lack a usable address. Even in well-mapped cities, street names and postcodes are frequently too broad to pinpoint exact building entrances or delivery drop-off points. Street names can also be long, difficult to pronounce, or duplicated, which can confuse voice-led navigation systems and slow drivers down.

what3words has developed a global addressing solution designed with voice in mind. It has divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares, and assigned each a unique combination of three words: a what3words address. This means every apartment building entrance, hard shoulder along the motorway, trailhead and warehouse drop-off point has its own what3words address. For example, ///defining.vocal.staple pinpoints the precise entrance to Hyundai Motor Group’s global headquarters in Seoul. what3words is available in over 60 languages to date.

Already trusted by major automakers and millions of users globally, the launch of what3words’ in-car app marks an exciting, consumer-led expansion of the technology, bringing the same level of accuracy and reliability of the mobile experience to even more drivers. The what3words in-car app features its own custom-trained AI, allowing users to search and input a precise what3words address for their destination using natural language commands. For example, a driver can say “Let’s navigate to varieties… apply… shirts” , select the destination and be guided to the precise location with ease. To access the full features of the app, including navigation, drivers will need a what3words Pro membership.

Chris Sheldrick, Co-Founder and CEO of what3words said: “42dot and Hyundai Motor Group are reimagining what the in-car experience looks like, and we’re proud to be part of that vision. By making what3words’ voice-enabled technology available via the Pleos Connect App Market, drivers can set precise destinations in moments – using just three words. It’s a simple upgrade that removes the usual frustrations associated with navigation and will make a real difference to millions of drivers.”
