An island addressed with what3words and Postal Services Sint Maarten
The what3words tide continues to gather strength, as the island nation of Sint Maarten adopts 3 word addresses for its mail and delivery services, and to improve its national infrastructure.
The Caribbean country becomes the third to use the multi-award winning addressing system, thanks to a partnership with Postal Services Sint Maarten (PSSNV). It also represents the third continent to accept 3 word addresses, following Mongolia in Asia and Côte d’Ivoire in Africa.
Many places on the island lack a formal or official address. Rapid development also means that addressing systems that do exist are struggling to keep pace. Attempts have been made in the past to introduce an addressing standard but these have all been abandoned. As a result, some homes and buildings now have multiple addresses whilst others have none.
By using what3words, every location in the country has an instant address – from a home on an unmarked road in the centre of the island, at overlays.campfire.sometime to a houseboat moored in the harbour at music.crunchy.electing . Making this address system part of the country’s infrastructure, and integral to PSSNV’s service, will help unlock the region’s economic growth and social development.
“PSSNV is proud to announce our partnership with what3words”, said Antonia Wilson, Managing Director of Postal Services Sint Maarten. “With what3words, PSSNV can instantly provide universal access to the postal service. This will make us more efficient and reduce customer frustrations.”
