netzero and what3words partner to redefine tree planting
netzero, a sustainability-focused afforestation business in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has signed a strategic partnership with what3words. Through this collaboration, what3words’ innovative location technology has been developed into netzero's Tree Wallet – a digital platform designed for users to track, manage, and view their tree-planting efforts in real time. netzero’s Tree Wallet users will now have the ability to easily find and visit their trees they’ve helped plant by navigating to their exact locations using what3words. This partnership is designed to bolster environmental awareness, allowing individuals to feel the impact of their efforts first hand.
what3words is revolutionising the way the world communicates locations. The system has divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares, and assigned each one a unique combination of three words: a what3words address. This means, whether users are visiting their specific trees in urban parks, or remote forests, they can easily find and navigate to them with pinpoint accuracy. For example, netzero has planted a tree on behalf of what3words in Buqayq, Saudi Arabia at ///solving.tagging.suspend
The partnership is designed to deepen users’ emotional connection with nature by bridging the digital and physical experiences of tree planting. Knowing the precise location of a tree and being able to visit it promotes a stronger sense of personal responsibility and pride in contributing to global reforestation efforts.
Mohammed Al Khalid, Founder & CEO of netzero comments: “Partnering with what3words aligns with our commitment towards transparency, trust, and engagement –three pillars of our mission to make reforestation accessible, measurable, and meaningful. We believe this innovation will inspire more individuals and organisations to take part in building a greener future.”
Chris Sheldrick, Co-Founder and CEO of what3words added: “Enabling users to pinpoint exactly where they’ve had a direct impact on ecosystem restoration is powerful. With what3words now part of netzero’s Tree Wallet, we’re proud that our technology supports their rewilding efforts in Saudi Arabia and beyond.”
what3words is available in over 60 languages to date, including Arabic, and also works offline, making it ideal for use in areas with an unreliable data connection. The what3words app is free to download for both iOS and Android devices and can also be used via the online map at what3words.com
