Getting women home safely with what3words and Bikxie Pink

Safety is a serious concern for women travelling around Indian cities, particularly at night. Bikxie Pink, a bike taxi service for female customers in Delhi, is using what3words to help pinpoint the correct pick-up and drop-off points for the journey.

From A to B on pink wheels

Getting around Delhi is never easy. And for women in the city, where threats, attacks and even rape have been reported, it’s more than just an inconvenience. Standing outside late at night trying to explain where to meet, or vaguely describing a destination, is not only frustrating and inefficient but also potentially dangerous. To combat this, the bike taxi company Bikxie now offers Bikxie Pink, a service offering women pilots for female customers travelling alone.

Taking care of every trip

Bikxie is the first Indian app to build in the what3words service, giving every 3m x 3m square of the country a unique and memorable 3 word address. Now, passengers simply discover the address for their start and end points, and enter it into the app when they book a bike. They can also tell the pilot, “Take me to ///supple.somewhere.speakers” when they hop on and know they’ll be taken to precisely where they want to go.

The service is already available in English, with three Indian language versions currently in development. It also works offline, in case the data signal is poor, and has built-in error detection.
