Location is a powerful business tool. Whether assessing flood risk, exploring the landscape or even finding the nearest recycling centre, the systems that manage geospatial information are at the heart of decision making. To unleash its full potential it needs to be in the hands of as many people as possible.

This was the motivation behind the creation of GeoWE. GeoWE is a free open-source online software platform that allows anyone not only to visualise geospatial data but also provides specialised tools to perform complex editing operations and spatial analysis.

To ensure that geospatial information is not only as accessible as possible but as usable as possible, GeoWE have integrated what3words.

what3words is a global addressing system. It has divided the world into 3m x 3m squares, each with a unique 3 word address. Three words are easier to communicate than complex coordinates, and more accurate than street addresses.

The geospatial industry is worth an estimated $150bn annually. Yet there is no precise global address or location reference system that can be used easily by everyone.

Until now.

“Adding what3words into GeoWE gives a simple way for people to refer to locations in the real world and makes our software even more accessible and powerful.” Atanasio Muñoz, co-founder GeoWE.
