In recent months, new wooden benches have been installed in public spaces across the UK. They are the works of suicide prevention charity CALM and Netflix, inspired by its hit series, After Life. To make the ‘Benches of Hope’ easy to find, what3words has found the what3words address for each bench location.

About the benches

25 benches have been donated to local councils around the UK and given new homes in local parks and public gardens. The benches aim to raise awareness that many people are struggling with loss and to remind members of the public that it’s okay to talk about grief.

The ‘Benches of Hope’ are inspired by Netflix show After Life where the main character Tony (played by Ricky Gervais) repeatedly visits a bench to remember his late wife and talk about his grief with others, who often have their own experience of loss they share with him.

Find the benches using what3words

To make the benches easy to find, what3words teamed up with CALM to find and share their what3words addresses.

what3words is reimagining the way we communicate location. It has divided the globe into 3 metre squares and given each square a unique combination of three random words: a what3words address. This means that every bench has a precise address, like the one in Bath which can be found at ///afford.smiles.either

To find your local bench, download the free what3words app , enter the what3words address and tap ‘Navigate’ to get directions straight to that exact location.
