what3words AI Chat is a conversational AI that understands what3words and how to use it.

You can give it a what3words address as part of an instruction or question and it will recognise the 3 words and the precise location they refer to – and respond accordingly.

For example, you can ask it to book a ride to a what3words address: I need an Uber to ///above.dock.shrimp

Or you can ask it to generate a route between what3words addresses: I need a Google Maps route from ///market.spoken.budget to ///filled.count.soap

It can also use your current location and generate a route between there and a what3words address: I need a Google Maps route to ///amount.shelf.olive Please note you may need to give our website and your browser permission to access your location. You can learn how to do that here

It can even bulk save multiple what3words addresses at once: paste them into AI Chat and ask it to save them in a list: Save these addresses in a new list called ‘Festival weekend’

How to access AI Chat:

• In the app: tap the Chat button below the search bar. When the chat opens, you’ll see suggestions for popular prompts – use these, or ask your own question!
• On our online map: click the Chat button to the right of the search bar

You can ask your queries via text and voice* using the app, or with text entry using our online map.

*Voice queries are currently only available in English and German

To use AI Voice Chat, tap the Voice button below the search bar and speak your query. You may need to give the app permission to access your device’s microphone.

How to use AI Voice Chat

• Say a query just as if you were typing – when you’re speaking a what3words address into AI Voice you don’t need to say the slashes and dots. For example, ///filled.count.soap should be spoken as “filled count soap”. The AI is on the lookout for what3words addresses within your query and will be able to pick them out!
• You can include any number of what3words addresses in your query (or even none at all)AI Voice Chat is currently available only in the app, and works only in English and German for now.

Here’s how to extract what3words addresses from an imported file or image:

1. Tap the Import button
2. Select your file type: CSV, image or PDF
3. Select the file to upload
4. Ask a question or give an instruction, for example
5. Extract the what3words addresses from this file and save them to my work list

The free scan feature still allows you to capture what3words addresses in the moment using your device’s camera.

To access Enhanced Scan, you need a what3words Pro subscription. This gives you access to these functions:

• Live Scan enables you to scan multiple addresses at once using your device’s camera in real time. You can even use it to quickly save multiple locations to a list. Useful for guidebooks, event signs or reports that contain multiple locations
• Import via Scan lets you upload images from your gallery or files to quickly extract what3words addresses

Enhanced Scan is only available in the app.

How to use Live Scan:

1. Tap the Scan button below the search bar. You may need to give the app permission to access your camera
2. Toggle Live Scan to the ‘on’ position
3. Hold your device over the what3words addresses. The app will recognise them and display them on the screen
4. Select the addresses you want to use. You can save them to a list or see the locations on the map
